Science at a glance - March 2014

It looks like a lot of interesting things are quickly happening in the world of science, while I struggle to find the closest drycleaner to our new house. So, I'm introducing "Science at a glance" to keep up with the latest and most exciting events in science... at least to me. That's the great thing about blogs - curation, right?
 

• IBM's supercomputer Watson will be used to sequence DNA of cancer tumors. Will this mark IBM's comeback? I approve.
• The opposition to golden rice has cost 1.4 million life years.
• Snake venom as painkillers; no side effect known YET...How about I let you try this out first? 
• Flat NIH funding and sequestration hampering cancer research. Don't color me surprised. 
• The act of forgetting - so cool on the molecular level, so not cool when I can't find my keys.
